I'm thinking about getting the neck on my 85 GF 100 slimmed. Robin Smith said you can't bring the bottom of the neck up too much because the truss rod channel is about an 1/8 inch away from the bottom of the neck, but you can pull in the sides a little.

I really like the tone of this banjo, but the more I played it, the more uncomfortable I got with the fat neck.

Anybody share these thoughts? What are your opinions on shaving the neck?

	danielburdett says: 12/9/2011 1:39:56 PM I have a '79 and it has a fairly slim neck. I think I remember reading somewhere that the later models had fatter necks. I would have a pro do it if you do decide to have it done. Best of luck.

	bbanjoboy says: 1/7/2012 8:26:58 PM If it's an original neck, I'd leave it alone.. They're not making anymore 85 Goldstars... I'd see if you couldn't get a modern Goldstar neck to monkey with... Perhaps you'd like it as is, or if not, you could have it modified. Then you could keep the original and put it back if you ever wanted to. You might check with Robin about even making you a custom neck for it. Probably wouldn't be too much more than modifying the one you've got.. This would let you have a custom neck, and you could restore the original if you ever choose to sell the Goldy.. plus the Goldstar would have more value as an un-modified banjo... just my 2 cents...
