What shall Classic banjo content be?

From rudy on 1/30/2011 6:54:09 PM

Nice to see a Classic banjo group started.  I'll be interested in what direction the group members want to take this.  I don't play classic banjo, but I do have an interest in the instruments from a historical perspective. I've got an on-going project going to provide Boucher information, most notably a construction plan for would-be builders.  If y'all don't mind I'll link posts associated with the project here.

My vote is to center content on fingerstyle (guitar style) playing and the banjos used for it. I would expect this to include just about any 5-string (perhaps 6, 7 and 9 as well?) made between the 1840's and the 1920s.

I agree with Marc. There should be a Boucher/Stroke style group for that stuff.

I'm also not sure what use this group will be, given that we already have a dedicated classic banjo group here: classic-banjo.ning.com/ But we shall see...

Thanks. guys. Just trying to figure out where the Boucher fits into the general scheme of things. There's also the dedicated Ning Minstrel banjo forum here:
minstrelbanjo.ning.com/
but there seems to be little interest here generally.

Sorry for the multiple posts, I'm not doing it! I'm checking messages elsewhere and this causes duplicate posts here... seems to be a little glitch in the "groups" workings.

20 O'Carolan Irish Classics for 5-String Banjo and All Instruments
Linked by Tom Hanway 11 years ago: Each tune is played twice through on the recording, which is an optional download that matches the transcriptions note for note and chord for chord. I recommend getting the recording as well.
