Irish/Celtic music camps in western U.S.?

I've been to plenty of the BG kind, now I'm thinking I'd like to get more serious about learning this style.  If anyone has a recommendation, I'd love to know.  Also, should... Read More

Tablature: Swallowtail Jig, The
Linked by Tom Hanway 1 month ago: The prototype Tom Hanway Stelling Swallowtail is named for this jig, also the reel, and the book Swallow Barn. Here's the whole tune in E Dorian mode with melodic and rhythmic variations.

Tablature: Anach Cuain (E Dorian/Beginner)
Linked by Tom Hanway 1 month ago: Moved from the standard A Dorian to E Dorian, this is a beginner version of the famous Irish air and lament. I've added fretting-hand fingerings. Enjoy!

Tablature: Swallowtail Jig, The (Opening Phrase)
Linked by Tom Hanway 1 month ago: This is an exercise in Celtic fingerstyle banjo illustrating possible melodic variations for the opening phrase of this jig, also comfortable fretting-hand and picking-hand options. (E Dorian)

Tablature: Anach Cuain (Air/Lament)
Linked by Tom Hanway 1 month ago: The famous Irish air and lament, based on Dolly MacMahon's sean-nos version in A Dorian. This is highly ornamented. It's can also be played in 3/4 and in 6/8, as jig, known as 'The Sheep in the Boat'.

Tablature: Anach Chuain / A Dorian
Linked by Tom Hanway 1 month ago: A bare bones arrangement of the famous Irish air and lament. Compare with the highly ornamented version of 'Anach Cuain'.

Tablature: Blackberry Blossom Jig
Linked by Tom Hanway 1 month ago: I thought it would be fun to come up with a jiggy 6/8 arrangement for Blackberry Blossom, the well-known fiddle tune. This has some interesting ornamentation in the B part, as well. Enjoy!

MP3: The Silver Spear/The Drunken Tinker/Rollin' in the Rye Grass
Linked by androo 2 months ago: Taken from Chris Grotewohl's Celtic 5 String book. Better description in my music section.

MP3: The Broken Pledge/Julia Delaney
Linked by androo 2 months ago: Ploughing my way through The Broken Pledge and Julia Delaney. These go together nicely.

Tablature: Garryowen
Linked by Tom Hanway 2 months ago: This is in “Celtic E Modal” tuning, which I stumbled across many years ago. I use this tuning (and related “Dogface” tuning) to experiment with "complex tonality" and different modalities.
