Hey everyone - full disclosure upfront, I am the developer here, not just a player posting.

I built Banjo Practice Log for iOS - a simple habit tracker purpose-built for banjo players. You log practice sessions, track streaks, and watch your time accumulate over weeks and months. The idea is to make it frictionless to see how consistently you are actually putting in the work.

No subscription, no ads. One-time $3.99 on the App Store.

I would genuinely love honest feedback from actual players here. Does this kind of tracking resonate with you? What would make it more useful for banjo specifically?

Thanks for taking a look.

I haven't used your app, or any one similar to it, but I've long wondered about how much time I've spent playing, and about the trends of my practice effort. I'm able to see this kind of information in other venues like video games and online chess, so I've grown to appreciate the sense of accumulation and insight it gives.

I wouldn't make a habit of opening an app just to track time. But often when I play, I open a tuning app to make sure things are in order. It could be good for your app to provide the same function to give another incentive to open it and expand its utility. It's a much smaller step to cross than adding a brand-new task to someone's routine.

I hope that's useful or interesting for you. Best of luck with your app.

I currently use the Amazing Slower Downer & Strum Machine along with Apple Music so I'm not anti-tech, but this strikes me as a solution in search of a problem.

Jim, I disagree.

This is tech being applied to/for journaling and it's good by definition.

Solutions or problems are not necessary to justify the activity.

All I know I learned here: apps.apple.com/ru/app/banjo-pr...1?l=en-GB

For me ?? .... I have my doubts ...... unless it's some sort of magic [i.e. sow's ear >> silk purse].   wink

Btw, what are [daily] "streaks" and how are they used?

I do keep track of my practice times and use the stop watch on my laptop. I only want to know how long I have worked on one thing in the hour- hour and a quarter I sit. I don't keep any records and each session the watch starts at zero. I am not fussy enough to use your program. But it does seem well thought out.

Really appreciate everyone taking the time to weigh in here. This is exactly the kind of honest feedback I was hoping for.

@clackyfingers - great idea about the tuner. You're right that it lowers the barrier to opening the app. Good news: the next update will include a built-in chromatic tuner with banjo-specific presets (Open G, Double C, G Modal). That way you can tune up and log your session in the same place.

@Owen - a streak is just a count of consecutive days you've practiced. The idea is that seeing "14 day streak" gives you a nudge to not break the chain. Simple but it works for a lot of people.

@tonygo - appreciate the kind words. The app does have a built-in timer if you ever want to track individual practice areas within a session, but I get that not everyone needs that level of detail.

@pinenut - thanks for the support. That's a good way to put it.

Thanks again everyone. More updates coming soon.
