Hi! New member here, and new to the banjo.
Can anyone recommend a solid banjo instructor for Scruggs-style in the Hudson Valley (New York)? I live in New Paltz, but I'm willing to travel about 30 mins for someone good.
For reference, I'm a long-time guitar player. Picked up the banjo about a month ago and loving it!

I’m not so sure if it’s up to date, but it’s a starting point.
Of course, there are a ton of resources online. Everyone has their favorite. Banjo Ben Clark has a very comprehensive website.

We have a teacher's list. You might check and see if there's anyone near you. Look under Learn on the left hand side of the page and then click on Find a Teacher. Then follow instructions to find one in your area. Use the advanced search to narrow the field to genre, city and state.

Look up Scott Hopkins banjo - he's in the Albany area, but he might know someone closer to Ulster County. He also runs banjo camps at various locations in NY state.

pclarkin I know Scott! He led a Wernick class I took last summer and taught banjo at the Ashokan Center this past weekend. I just emailed him for a recommendation, actually.
