The 1/4 inch earphone output on the Yamaha electronic keyboard ONLY works if the earphone jack is pushed and held sort of sideways.
Of course, if one hand is doing THAT, there's only one other hand to work the keys.
Any idea how to treat the problem, without taking the dang thing apart?
Much as I enjoy taking things apart, I'm not always successful at putting them back together.

solder joint is bad. take it apart and reflow the solder.
one of the internal fingers is bent/worn/dirty and needs to be pranked/cleaned.
the jack is broken... you need a new one.
