I took lessons with Clinton for a time. Superior musician who has that rare ability to be an excellent, patient teacher, too. Genuine and good humored individual.

It is in the key of E so I guess he is in open D tuning (f#DAF#D) capo 2.

Clinton is tuned to g#EG#BE on the recording as you guessed Jan (I saw you transposed the "A" and "F#" in open D, f#DF#AD). His version isn't the Burnett & Rutherford one, he based it on a Frank Hutchison tune, with a little of Marcus Martin's "Honey Babe" thrown in, a tune that Marcus recorded playing banjo. As Clinton relates, the tune (as played by both Hutchison and Martin) is based on 1912's "All Night Long" by vaudeville composer Shelton Brooks.
