just got finished fitting my first ever calfskin head and, it went very well, took my time and remembered all I have watched on youtube, no problem, smooth as the proverbial ! my question , how long before I can tighten it to playing tension? do I have to slowly tighten over days ? or just jump in tomorrow and get her up to playing tension ? thanks in advance .

For me it depends upon the humidity. It might seem dry across the face, but up there underneath it will take longer to dry.

I usually mess with it a bit after a day or two, but don't put too much tension on it until I know its really dry.

If you rush it, that is the best way to pop it!!

I remember my first calfskin head fitting. And the guy who taught me how to do it: Ed Haggard. "First," he said, "get a calf . . ."

Best not to rush it. Do it gradually over a week or so. Speaking from experience.
