Hi everyone. I'm in the UK (I play a Stewart McDonald Diamond Eagle circa 1985)and a friend of mine has lent me his banjo to try out. I was stunned as to how good it was, both in sound and looks.Gold plated and lots of abalone inlay. It is a 'Liberty Promenade' made in 1981 serial number 2006. There is little info on the internet other than a reference from 2009 when the same banjo (serial number 2003) was valued at $8000. I am hoping that some one here may be able to give us some background to the banjo and some idea of its value. Also where would be the best place to sell in US. I'll have to hunt around for the best outlet in UK. So thanks in advance if you able to help, and best wishes to all. Sorry, forgot to say it's a 5 string resonator banjo lovely bluegrass sound.

Here's some information on Liberty banjos:

I have a Liberty Quadrille and I love it. They were really well-made banjos and sound great. Bob Flesher and Paul Morrisey knew what they were doing! There is a BHO Liberty group that you might want to join.

Thanks Joe, Can't find the BHO Liberty group. Can confirm that I got the serial number wrong, it is as per your list -1006 and have also attached some pictures.

Hi dmiller,
Many thanks for your comment. I have seen it before, It seems to be the only reference on the internet to the 'Promenade'. But appreciate you taking time to help. :-)
Kind Regards
Paul

Hi Paul

If you're looking for somewhere to offer that banjo for sale,  IMHO this site is certainly the best place to start!   There are 4548 registered UK members of the Hangout.   If you place an ad with plenty of photos and a full description and make it clear in the title of the ad that the banjo is in the UK,  you'll probably stir up a lot of interest.  You could also put a link to the ad in the UK5 group here.

Alternatives include selling it through John Alvey Turner,  Kevin Scott at 'Findajo' ,  Hobgoblin Music,  Eagle Music  or  Andy Perkins , but I imagine they'd all charge a commission.

Good luck with the sale.

Harry

Paul
