I don't know how many people look at the Tab Requests forum so I am posting this here.

A while back I put in a request for an old fiddle tune "South Missouri" and a couple members were kind enough to work up some versions of it. Thanks Janolov and dbrooks for taking the time on this.

When I stumbled upon this tune I really enjoyed it and as I spent a lot of time down in the Ozark Hills when I was younger I thought I should learn this tune. I don't have a webcam so I can't post a version of me playing it.

Well lets see I started going down to Branson in 1981 back when Branson West was still known as Lakeview. I started going down there for Scuba classes back when you could still drive down the strip in the middle of summer and if you took a back road is was a 2 lane twisty windy affair not those fancy alternate routes they put in to avoid the strip.

The Scuba shop in KCMO i took my lessons and later worked for taught at the dam of Table Rock Lake. Over the years I ended up diving Bull Shoals, Beaver and Norfork also I would mostly camp while I was down there but when I was teaching at Table Rock we stayed at the Table Rock Inn.

Some years I spent more weekends down there than at home in KC! I would be at the lake 20-30 weekends a year. I did this for 20 years!!

When I wasn't diving on the weekend I did a lot of canoeing on the rivers down along the state line area. Jack's Fork, Elk, North fork of the White, Buffalo, James... 

So mostly I spent time in Branson but spent a fair amount of time in Eureka Springs AR. too. Last time I was down there was in 2003 right before I moved to Denver.

Hi Scott,

My wife and I love the Ozark streams as well. Right now we live at the very northern-most edge of the Ozarks, Franklin County, but we still love exploring the rivers, springs, old mills and everything else associated with the great outdoors in the Ozark region. To the point, here is a little video that my wife put together about Topaz Mill on the North Fork White River in Douglas County. You might enjoy it, if not that's Ok too.

For the record, the two tunes you'll hear are Red Bird and a version of Doc Roberts' Shortenin' Bread that Rhys Jones says is known As "Irish Cobbler" in Missouri.
