I have a few of these coming up in my garden ..... anybody seen these before , looks a little scary to be edible .. it is 4-5 inches across.

I've spent many an hour foraging for wild edible mushrooms; morels, chantrelles, etc.
Never seen that one before. When in doubt, throw it out.

I was wondering also about the puffball mushroom ... still waiting to see if the top expands ...it has been up for about a week now .... another one came up that is 25% larger but the same type

Okay I looked the mushroom in question again closely with a magnifying glass and the black sides seem to be moving ......why ?................. because it was being eaten by maggots ..... on further google searches I find out that maggots are common in mushrooms to the point the FDA allows 20 maggots per 100 grams in our food.......... as someone who eats mushrooms on a regular basis makes me wonder how many I have consumed. Ignorance is bliss !! ... guess I'll just dig the rascals up and chuck em ..... chalk it up to the unsolved mystery .
