Okay, I'm comparing two Deering banjos  (Classic Goodtime & Classic Goodtime Special), under "description" one says "Geared 5th peg" the other says "Geared 5th String Tuner".  Is that a difference, or just two ways of saying the same thing?

No problem - I've been doing some practicing today - and sounded awful - so decided to surf the boards instead!  Sometimes, you just gotta get up and walk away and come back to play another day!

starhopper;  It must be be all those asteroids and comets coming into the earths atmosphere; I had the same problem today while practicing and was so awful I also had to walk away for a couple of hours !!!!!wink

Yeah Phil - the only thing you would NOT want is a FRICTION peg - the old stuff with no gears so one full turn of the button = one full turn of the peg. Harder to fine tune.
