Heres a really nice short scale banjo built by Sarah Messina and her Mum.

Mahogany chocolate neck, liquorice bullet frets and hooks, silver frosted icing head. A minstrel style wafer bridge and tailpiece. Tastes as good as it sounds!

Are the strings edible too?

That's incredible! What're the strings made of?

I can't resist...  Sweeeeet!

They've almost got to be kitchen twine or something like that - I mean, they're actually above the fretboard and stuff.. I'd be fascinated to know how you did them, too.

Even though I think licorice is gross, that looks very good.

I'm going to be wondering about the strings, though - I would totally just cheat (and I wouldn't even probably have thought of it as such before seeing this) and just draw them on the neck in frosting.

Please tell me I'm wrong about the twine!

Strings: If you need them to be edible,  Spaghetti comes to mind, along with the old Tuning Joke

"We'd like to thank Chef Boyardee for donating the experimental strings for tonight's show."

The bridge is awesome. I'm waiting for someone to try it on an actual banjo.

Wow.. never thought I'd be joining Banjo Hangout to explain cake! But here goes:

For my band's 6-monthaversary, we had a bit of a barn bash. Since the band is named after the banjo, it seemed fitting to make a cake in its honour. Two cake bases were used - chocolate, and orange & poppyseed. The only inedible parts were toothpicks (holding the marshmallow tuning pegs in place) and the twine strings. We did try tube-icing for the strings, but it just didn't look as good.

If you're on Facebook, there's a top-view shot on our band page thingy - facebook.com/HRB.Strongheart

Cheers,

Sarah
