Off Topic:
I uploaded another clip taken from a tv show were I played with my friend Betty Gilmore, it was a little hommage to Miriam Makeba: it is not played on four strings so I didn't link it to this part of the forum, but since the great part of my contacts are here I suggest you to wach it, hoping you enjoy: at least the setting and the camerawork is much better than usual!
you find it here:

Hello friends!
I've just received the permission to post this clip from Rob. I enjoyed myself a lot playing this cyber-session together with this skilled and solid banjoist.
Here's the link to our job:

What editing software did you use, Marco? I imagine it has been troublesome trying to synchronize everything? But, although it is not technically perfect, it does make everyone smile ![]()

Rob, I use Nero 10...the only issue being myself...
as I recorded 4 audio tracks and 4 soundtracks all at once, then I inadvertently deleted the video corresponding to the chosen audio, so I used a video not corresponding to this audio. as an ear player I'm not able to play anything always the same way. This case the result is that not always the fingers move corresponding to the music. I hope to improve everything in the future! Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to use your "Tune of the Month"

The first thing would be for someone to just play a rhythm track video for any tune of the month we decide upon. I don't think my software can have two videos playing at the same time. Apart from Marcus, can anyone else's? I'm really impressed with what Marcus did, and the tuba line helps too.

As I commented on YT, it really is brilliant and definately made me SMILE:)
Looking forward to more 'banjo's across the world'.

Rob,
I propose myself to edit the videos, that's not so dangerous as each one can save his personal tracks...beside, many versions could be realized and compared to choose the best one.
A good base would be a good start... the next step should be not to include more than 4/5 banjoists to avoid a too difficult job (IMO). After some attempts we could try to create a "Guinness" Banjo Band with dickers of musicians!

I just now finally watched Marco's video mix of him and Rob's playing "When You Are Smiling" ... now that is too cool for words! Oh, and here is a clickable link (why I missed it the first time around, must have skimmed past it, not realizing what it was):

Stompin'...? Hey, what key are you guys playin' in ? I watched Rob and dunno. I think it's written in F and that's what I'm tryin to learn it in but my changes don't look much like his at all ??
Rob MacKillop - Posted - 01/17/2012: 11:22:35
Mind you, I don't know what key Maco is in. LOL! Only kidding, Marco ;-)
Dogface - Posted - 01/17/2012: 11:31:52
Thanks Rob....no wonder I couldn't follow it since I'm in F. Hopefully I can get it down before Feb :)
Marco is likely in Key Largo ....LOL...

Dogface, I extracted 3 scores from my "fake books". One is in F, one in C, one in D flat. The original versions of Benny Goodman's and Chick Web's bands are played in D flat, so this key is the Holy Gral...isn't it? ![]()
But I love the Rob's version in F as this key makes it so easy and fun to play on a CGDA tuned tenor.
I hope to listen to other version of this tune here on this wonderful 4-string corner and I also wait for any proposal for a further, extended digital experiment....

Oops, I thought we were talking about When You're Smiling. I play Stompin in C, beginning with a G7 chord.
Dogface - Posted - 01/22/2012: 13:20:34
Ok..all my banjo buddies. Finally did my version of the January TOM.... Stompin' at the Savoy... hope you approve.
Can't seem to figger out how to attach so here's the URL..

Not a working link Mark. You may have to play the video in You Tube and then copy and paste that link into a new message here.

Yeah! Just found (using dogface+banjo as tags on YouTube). Nice version & nice banjo ! (Is it a Leedy?)

Some good stuff there, Mark! Nice modulations, and a great last chord. Is that Eddie Davis's bird I hear in the background?

Steve, that is what I thought I did....seems Rob saved my by embedding it. I have tried to save attachments and photos work but this video would not attach for me. Tried a few times. Thanks Rob...
Birdie is my wife's African Grey ...was not sure you could hear it...
Banjo is a thing I put together myself out of mostly B&D parts and a Richelieu archtop tone ring I found on ebay. Rick made the rim to fit for me. All other parts are Bacon.
