I would like to find a pattern and/or directions for how to make a gig bag for a banjo. I know already, the Peter Seeger book "How to Play the Five String Banjo" does but it is quite vague and new materials and fasteners have been developed since then. Does anyone have such instruction for how to make a gig bag?

Gee, I was just going to suggest shopping the WARM weather rummage sales for a set of quilted snowmobile pants with a full-length zipper on the outside of the leg.
Cut off one leg, stitch it shut, and you've got plenty of room in the seat for a banjo. the leg is plenty long enough for the neck, and the removed leg can be used for extra padding.

There's one (actually, just a sketch and general directions) in the back of Pete Seeger's banjo book.

I made one once and it was more trouble than it was worth. I have a very good sewing machine, but really needed one that was more suited to upholstery to get through the layers. Never again!

I strongly agree with Mike Gregory. I, also scour thrift shops and yard sales and find a plethera of objects that can be transformed to fit your specific needs. Think outside the box. ![]()

Thinking outside the box is good advice.
However, contemplating the transformation of padded snowmobile trousers to a gig bag might be described as "thinking inside the pants".
And thinking inside the pants cost someone I know, thousands in Child Support.![]()
Ain't words fun??????

So, there is a sense of sincerety should you ask, " Is that a banjo in your pants, or are you just happy to see me?"![]()
