A new study by the Southern Poverty Law Center describes a big rise in hate groups across the country. By its count, there are now more than 1,000 active extremist groups in the U.S. Experts say the largest increase comes from militias that consider the federal government their enemy.

It'd be so much better for all concerned if they just joined the BHO and outed themselves with our diverse group of fellows over here:

course maybe you could ban the gov. from your group?

Sultans of Claw - Posted - 02/24/2011:  05:03:04

How could a group called Posers, Trolls and Malcontents possibly exclude anyone here on the HO? We're inclusive -- not exclusive.

Until they exclude me, of course!

Yeah, don't be a hater!

jwgreene01 - Posted - 02/24/2011:  05:31:11

Dept of Homeland Security memo determined returning soldiers fron Iraq and Afghanistan are impending threats to security. Along with anyone opposing the current administration policies.(This is a non politicical statement only referencing previous public statements and records for historical evidence).

I'm sure there are no sophistry employed or hidden agenda by SPLC. I suggest to all, do some research on SPLC.

KE - Posted - 02/24/2011:  05:40:40

I suppose one man's hate group is another man's patriot group. The only difference is if you agree or disagree with who they're hating on. There does seem to be an abundance of hatred these days.

I might hate hate-group baiting nearly as much as hate-group hating. Would that qualify me as my own hate group? Or just a poser/troller/malcontent? I really think I'm more of a 'couldn't give a fig about nutjobs' sort.

jwgreene01 - Posted - 02/24/2011:  05:45:04

Interesting, could SPLC actually be labeled as a hate group?

Please don't hate him.
Leave him alone.
We are supposed to be intelligent adults here.
I'm sure you have more important things to do than pick on Justa Booger!

I used to be a member of this group, but then came the 5th grade and I met Carol. I dropped out of the HMWHC.

Aw...... 'cmon dudes!

Not more "Bieber hate" please!
Do we have to go into this again!
As I said before, our reaction to JB is just a reflection of what lies within each of our souls.
A metaphysical miirror, if you will.

The SPLC should add the Bieber haters to their list.
The "Posers, Trolls and Malcontents" group is discontented about this.
And we will be watching you JB haters.

I agree. Have you seen the hate groups at work? They hate:

People that own guns
People that hunt
People that are fat
People on drugs..legal and illegal
People that smoke
People that are not doing what they say or doing what they dislike

Don't believe? Just mention guns or smoking..

KE - Posted - 02/24/2011:  08:13:40

And if you want to see the flip side -- just mention handgun regulation and feel the love of the NRA erupt!

Or mention secondhand smoke and watch the puffs of smoke in your face!

Add to your target list:
- people that dislike guns
- people that don't like trophy hunting
- people who are concerned about obesity rates
- people concerned about the effects of drugs
- people concerend about second-hand smoke
- people that are not doing what they say, or doing what they dislike

At least we agree on one. Glad you don't hate my hate groups!

Depends upon your definition of "hate", I suppose.

Perhaps the larger number of hate groups corresponds with the shrinking size of hate groups - e.g.: the Nazi party.

Here is something to ponder. Our country may have been founded by a possible hate group. Our forefathers didn't like the British way of taxing. And other things.

banjonz - Posted - 02/24/2011:  10:49:37

I would suspect ANYTHING that came from the Southern Poverty Law Center. I have info about them from a reliable source. It appears that any individual or group that disagrees with them or their agendas is automatically labelled a 'hate group'.

Bad Paddy, Bad, Bad!!

It may be helpful to consider the definition of 'hate group.' Here is wikipedia's version:

"A hate group is an organized group or movement that advocates and practices hatred, hostility, or violence towards members of a race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation or other designated sector of society."

kipperr - Posted - 02/24/2011:  11:55:05

So can I hate hate groups?

stevel - Posted - 02/24/2011:  11:56:53

hating hate groups is one thing, but hating the hatred of hate groups would seem like an inner conflict to me...

Richard Dress - Posted - 02/24/2011:  12:10:40

The source of the 'facts' is a radical agit-prop front organization. Perhaps they have an agenda?

kipperr - Posted - 02/24/2011:  12:49:58

There are very few people who don't have an agenda.

Wow, as long as it's a "reliable source" that you have, I'm not sure how we could argue with that.

My brother has been federal law enforcement agent for over 30 years (he has no agenda). He told me over the holidays that the amount, and activity, of domestic hate groups during the past two years is at the highest level in his career. The locations and profile of many of these groups is disturbing on many levels. We haven't come very far since the 60's as a country. They target government officials and the people defined in KE's post above. Sad times indeed.

hmmm.... 2 years ago.... guess that makes the "reason" pretty obvious.

of course the groups' "reasons" for the "reason" may differ slightly a bit.... but i'd be willing to guess they all have the same common denominator.

KE, Thanks for a definition. It tells me that whoever is in charge of 'designating' is necessarily in charge of creating or shielding criminality on an ad hoc basis. That's political and Wiki is putting forward a definition that tries to give respectability to extremist politics. Witness the recent episode with the NBPP in Philly.

As far as a visible resurgence of hate groups, I have to say that the demonstrations in Wisconsin have given us a long list of initialed groups to ponder. However, I would laugh at SPLC as a credible source for anything. I doubt the SPLC list has even one of the organizations that were public and in-your-face with calls for violence just these last few days right here in Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana ... Anybody want to bet?

LOL! So, defining and opposing the "advocacy or practice of hatred, hostility, or violence towards members of a race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, etc" is extremist politics? Shielding criminality? And you accuse them of giving respectability to such a heinous objective as opposing racism. LOL!

KE - Posted - 02/24/2011:  14:21:00

Please tell us which groups that "advocate or practice hatred, hostility, or violence towards members of a race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, etc" you wish to defend from this vicious attack?

KE, you are educated. You understand what I am saying but you ignore it and start to babble. That's not showing me respect in this exchange of ideas. Your argument is not what I would expect of a highly educated person. If you can't address the political implications of 'who gets to do the designating', then take issue with my discrediting of SPLC, but please don't just start blowing smoke and tossing red herrings right and left.

Sorry to be irritated but you are not treating me as an intellectual equal.

Good grief! That statement cannot go unchallenged. Really? Anyone opposing the current administration policies? This is a ridiculous statement.

Really?!?!? Have you actually looked at their list of Hate Groups? Not all of the groups match what most would consider a Hate Group, but the vast majority of them are your typical dyed-in-the-wool ignorant hate-spewing rascists.

Why are people being apologists for this sort of ugliness? I understand the desire to debate topics (I am a proud member of the trolls/malcontents!), but give me a break.....

Well then, perhaps you should elaborate, because I clearly must have misunderstood. The definition of hate group seems defensible. In what way is the definition 'extremist politics?' And please further elaborate on your statement 'shielding criminality' - what criminality and who is shielding it?

You nailed it Richard. They have been using "Hate" lists as a fund raiser for decades. Sleaze at its worst. They target anyone who is a conservative or believes in a limited govt.

Its all just BS!

Everyone should do some research on the one of the founders Morris Dees.
