Has anyone heard of Vance Banjos? Or does anyone know Colin Vance? I 100% accidentally ended up on this web page (http://vancebanjos.com/) and was immediately intrigued. Then I found his myspace page here: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cf...ID=447780341

I was really struck by his peghead designs and wood choices. Apparently he's a fiddler in California. He has no presence on BHO.

Has anyone played one of his banjos? I thought I knew about all the Romeros, Brooks', Booths, etc. out there. Now this.

Humboldt County is where Wildwood is; likely he cut his teeth in Platin's shop (as did Jason Romero before heading to Canada).

He's a great fiddler and was in the same band as Jason. And Bill is correct about his connection to Wildwood. Jason told me he was building great banjos These are the first examples I've seen. I really like that spalted maple. Oh oh. I geel BAS kicking in....

When I picked up a banjo at Jasons a few years ago there was a buzz caused by the bridge. I looked around the room and said what is that sound..sounds like a RAT. I guess I was high from getting a new banjo and maybe I had a few beers...but I remember that cracked Colin up. He's a nice guy.

I just bought a Vance banjo, and it is truly wonderful, my favorite frailing banjo ever. It has a wonderful tone, and plays smooth as silk. I can't stop playing it. It also looks great and has excellent construction quality, although those things aren't as important to me as the way it sounds and plays.

Really nice banjos I stopped into Wildwood music in Arcata, Ca. (google for website) and saw a used one still in really good shape (1,250). really simple, but with good craftsmanship, and good hardware, I DID NOT play it though, I'm a lefty. But I was so impressed I called him up and asked that he make me a lefty.
