Hey all, does anyone have a tab arrangement for Sweet City Woman? I know the Stampeders played it on a banjitar - but when I try working the guitar ghords out on a banjo - it sounds horrible!
If anyone could help, I would appreciate it.

MrDano,
Welcome to the Hangout. It's good to see another Canuck here.
I think that it was played on a Tenor banjo, wasn't it? What are you trying to play it on, a Five String?

Thanks SJL I appreicate the welcome (no surprise another Canuck jumped on this one!). I've been hanging around for a while and wanted to get in on the commaradarie here!
Yeah, I'm trying to play in on a 5 string - someone told me a while ago they thought it was originally done on a mixed breed, but the tenor banjo sounds more likely. I can make the song sound pretty good on a 12 string guitar - but always wanted to learn it on a banjo - I didn't realize it was played on a tenor...

You're welcome. I'm not 100% sure that it is a tenor, but it sounds like one to me. Good luck, maybe someone will be more helpful than I have been.

No, don't have an arrangement. I think the guy who played the banjo on the recording has said he played a 6 string banjo, but I've been listening to this song on and off for 35 years, and it sure sounds like a tenor to me. Either that or the guy had outrageously good right hand technique, not to hit the bass strings on the runs up the neck. Good playing, regardless.

Hey guys thanks for the help - I do have the guitar tab for this and the chord progression is G-G5-Am-Aadd9-G-Gadd9. Maybe the question I have is whether or not I can play that chord progression on a 5 string in Open G tuning rather than a six string tuned to (EADGBE)? I'm thinking maybe not - but not sure because I can't even find some of these chord positions!
Pickin is good for the soul!
