Loud and sweet. Mine is made o Wenge Wood, and has no tone ring, like the other Minstrels, instead the rim is turned at the top to act as the tone ring.

Sounds great for clawhammer style playing, and not too bad for 3-finger playing either.

The tuners dont seem like the best in the world, I will probably replace them in a short while.

As stated above, the tuners arent the best in the world. I got a new sampson walnut bridge and a no-knot tailpiece and nylgut strings are on their way to me. The Fiberskin head is great.

I would highly recomend this banjo, it will probably be the last openback I will need to buy.....although I've said that before about otehr instruments......
