It sounds like a quality bluegrass banjo. It is loud but respnds well to being picked lightly as well as being picked 'hard'. It is a little more mellow than my last banjo and I like a brighter sound so I am going to replace the head with a 5 Star clear head

It is very attractive instrument. All of the ornamentation is tasteful, the metal parts are all nice and shiny, the wood parts are all attractively appointed.

The tone ring, hoop, brackets, resonator and neck all are very substantial. The flange may be bit weak but not noticeably so. My only 'disappointment' is the tuning gears. There is a bit of play in them which I find annoying. I will replace them with something of a highr quality.

I would definetely recommend the OB250. I would also recommend potential buyers to check out www.littlemountainmusic.com as I got the best price I have seen ($739.95 + shipping) and it included the case! If the banjo was stolen I would replace it with another OB250.
My previous banjo (wich I recently gave to my son at college who expressed interest in learning it) was (is) an Ibanez acquired in 1976. Overall I think the OB250 is a superior instrument in just about every aspect.
