For a 9,5" open back banjo with a 19.5" scale you wouldn't believe how amazing. Although a little softer it has tone on par with the 11" Doc built for me.

the Tranjo has nicely figured walnut and a nice glossy finish. The only flaws were on the fretboard markers around the inlay where the wood kinda splintered when the holes were drilled for the mother of pearl dots.

Nice instrument to fit a kinda difficult role. I think he should have included a soft case for as much as they cost. The fretboard could have been finished slightly better. However Sam is so nice I hate to complain and i know i am pickier than most.

Very bright, made of massaranduba,ironwood and a little white oak. Very dense woods. I was upstairs in the bedroom and my wife was downstairs playing the piano at the end of a 27' room opposite from meand you could feel the sound of the piano all the way to the top of the peg head.Pretty darn amazing if you ask me. we are talking at least 40 feet across the rooms up a flight of stairs and in another room. The door to the bedroom was open, but still pretty darn good.

Doc and his wife are great people. I got a banjo and made a new friend! The neck needed a slight adjustment and Doc talked me through it on the phone. It was done in five minutes. He really builds a quality thought out product, he says its guaranteed for everything for life and i believe it.

The brass hardware is a standout,and it has nice five star tuners with ivoroid buttons. The ironwood hand carved bridge is neat.
