Sound
|
The sound of this banjo is very good. It seems to produce even and crisp tones through the full scale. Low notes come out clear and clean. |

Setup
|
I had to lower the action just a little bit to suit my playing style. Other than that the instrument was fine. |

Appearance
|
My opinion of the SB600 is that it is one of the best looking banjos I have seen. I like clear heads. The neck is carved maple and the resonator is sycamore. The inlay on the peghead is very nice. |

Reliability

The hardware seems to be the problem. Although the hardware is of good quality and I trust it to hold up, it is gold plated and the plating is very thin. In less than a year I have worn through the plating on the arm rest. The tops of the hooks and tension hoop are wearing off too. |

Customer Service

I have contacted the Aria company and asked about the plating. They were concerned and very understanding but offered no help or resolution. I found this very unsatisfactory. |

Components
|
The best part of the banjo is the neck and peghead. With the inlay and rosewood fingerboard it does not lack for attractiveness. The back of the resonator was bookmatched nicely. Patterns in the wood are clear and clean. The carving on the neck is without flaws and not too |

I do like the SB600. I would recommend it to anyone as long as they chose the nickle plated option. The instrument plays nice and when I am in groups sometimes it is all I can do to hold onto it. Everyone wants to give it a try. The cost was comparable and in the price range of many other good quality banjos and I played a lot of them before I bought. |
