Learning To Play The Five-String Banjo

Students will learn how to play the five-string banjo through the introduction of bluegrass music and the Scruggs style of banjo picking. Others styles (Don Reno, Melodic ect..) will also be examined. Students will learn basic three finger roll patterns, chord structure, back-up techniques and basic songs. In addition, students will learn how to perform by accompany the guitar in both lead and back-up techniques. This class will also focus on the fundamentals of music theory. The student is expected to bring a banjo to class. (Please arrange with teacher for additional recommended course materials. Student is responsible for basic supplies ).

Registration begins March 24-27 and march 31-April 3, 2008 at Palm Beach Gardens Community Education Multipurpose Room from 5-8pm at Palm Beach Gardens High School.
