This song was written by the late Don Stover of West Virginia. I learned it from Gerry Milnes of the Augusta Heritage Center in Elkins, WV. Played in G on a Fairbanks Whyte Laydie.

Well, it's an honor to hear that from you, the son of Don Stover. The song really touches me, as it does for many others. I have read that your father was a very warm and generous person. He was indeed a great banjo player with a unique style.

I heard Don sing this a couple times at festivals in PA, its one of my favorites. I had forgotten about it for many years until Reed Martin loaned my son a cassette tape of Dons with it on it last summer, and then I also rediscovered it on one of Chris Coole & Arnies Naimen's cds, absolutely agree its a great song.
