This melody of tunes is performed on the new ANGEL OF MERCY banjo. The banjo was miked in stereo with two AT-4033's and is totally unaffected, no compression, reverb or other effect. The tunes are: St. Ann's Reel, Angelina Baker, Marching to Shiloh, Ten Days in Spain and Bonaparte s Retreat.

Sid,
That is interesting because I really like playing St. Ann's Reel quite slow. Maybe some day I'll record a slow version and post it here.

i'd be keen to hear that when you have the time!..
btw Dan: how do i minimize thumb thumpin', its drivin' me nuts.. iv'e tried all manner of wrist positions & playin' further back toward the bridge.. but as always, the sound is sweeter at/on the fretboard.. i currently use a 5/8 bridge, do you think an 11/16 would make any difference?..

Sid,
It might although I keep my action very low. When it is too tall or high I can't articulate as well. I have worked for years to smooth out my playing.

Thanks, yeh.. i like a low action too.. well i guess i'll take the same long road as you Dan!.. btw: stumbled on a thread which tackles the same issue, must be a common bad habit we self learners pick up unwittingly..
