The banjo I first learned to play on was a Gibson Trapdoor tenor, but the first banjo I played in public was this one!

Hi Steve
Oh, did you own the Epiphone or just borrow it?

Hi John
Great stuff!
Glad you are giddy to get it. It does look very nice.
Alan is a smashing chap, he has been ever so helpful. When the courier dropped my Vega on delivery it broke the resonator.
Alan had the resonator sent for repair and it came back looking like new. The tortoise binding had been replaced and the split wood. The luthier he uses is a magician.
I am sure you will be very happy with it.
Let us know how you get on with your new lady.
Ta
Richard

Just taken another look at the M, changing my view from that's 'nice' to 'beautiful' ;-)

Richard,
It was my Dad's, I used it until we were in too much competition to use just the one in the house! He bought me a brand new Baldwin for my birthday in 1966. I had just turned 16.

Hi Steve.
Lol. That's funny :-)
I can just imagine the 'it's my go, no its my go' and so on.
Don't you still have your Baldwin?

Hi John
Blimey 40! Still I was only born in 74 so doubt I could have purchased one then. Lol.

Hi John.
When I had my 17 Fret Goodtime, I used the same gauge on that as I do on My pro and these are the same gauges as Steve and I use on our Vega Pro's.
To be fair to Alan. I am not sure of what gauges he puts on for a Jazz set up but I didn't change the Pro strings straight away and also still have the same strings on the Epi that Alan supplied it with.
The gauges I buy are :- 30,24,13,10
I get them directly from Newtone as they will sell you them in these gauges.
I think 6 sets are about 36.

Richard

Yes! I still have the Baldwin and use it on all my outdoor gigs. I even used it this weekend at the banjofest. I keep her in good shape. We had a bad snow storm last night. Leaves are not off the trees yet, so there were a lot of power outages here. Lots of limbs came down and took wires with them.

Hi Richard, yeah I`ll just have to experiment with the 17 fret set up. So you still have the open back Pro ? Beautiful looking banjo.
Cheers,John

I truly lust for a Recording A. Don't care at all for the other models though...

I've just got a renaissance head and a Dan Goodrich tailpiece for it Mark so I can take a little of the brightness off and lessen the sustain a bit. Once I get the action with the new head how I like it I will also get a Kat Eyz bridge with a little more weight than the one I have on the Vega Pro. At the moment the banjo rings for so long you could go make a cup of tea and come back and it would be still ringing lol
