I just have a feeling you got this little gem for a song!

John:
These old Gibsons have become quite expensive. Not too long ago you could get them for a lot less. But now they are bringing $700-1000 on ebaY. I bought this one for around $700. I plan to set it up as a tenor and just hold on to it. So many of these are being cut for tone rings. I'll save this one from that fate.

Hi John in Mufreesboro, Yes, agreed! No cutting please! Leave her be or do a reversible conversion--just the neck & leave the whole pot alone. What model is yours? Looks to be late 20s & as it has no binding on the resonator. Could it be a junior? Or did they have a TB-00 then? The old peghead shape was cool, as was the low angle that the peghead has relative to the neck, and the lack of a "thumb stop" . Does it have a "tone hoop' or no hoop at all? . Either way, with that Rogers calfskin, it could make a charming Uncle Dave Macon-style banjo with a 5-string neck made to mimick the tenor. And it could be reversible. Mine is. Hope to get over to Uncle Dave Macon days someday! Gail ('over the mountain' in NC)

Gail:
No cutting indeed. Arthur Hatfield is making a mid-1930s RB-1 style neck for it (much like Uncle Dave's banjos). I'm planning a completely reversible conversion..with no damage ot alteration to the rim or resonator.
