I was given a Washington tenor by a friend that traveled with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys in the late 1940's. The banjo has several cracks in the flange and supports a real hide head, but otherwise is sound. After he gave it to me I wanted to play it, so I added a 5th string. I used extra light strings and put a nail in the side, bent an "L" shape and used a jewelers saw to cut a notch in it. It works but looks like crap. I carry it with me on trail rides and campfire outing.

Danny - that's a novel way to add the extra string. By not adding extra wood it would be easier to go back, too (if you wanted). Good work -Bill
