Wow! A real, live B-17G!
Have you read "Flying Forts" by Martin Caidin? It's a history of the B-17 from its inception, through near bankruptcy of Boeing, to its escapades in WWII. It brought back many fliers who were saved by the toughness of the craft. One B-17 was sliced pretty much in two over Tunisia and brought its crew home to a safe landing. It then fell apart when someone opened a hatch.

A Higher Call and Boys At War, Men At Peace are both good reads about the human side of the B 17 air war. My best friend and music partner's dad wrote the latter.
