I'll always remember the day I discovered Tony Ellis as the day that changed my life. The nicest guy on the planet with a soulful approach to the banjo that results in warm playing and beautiful compositions. His banjo music paints a picture which goes deeper than it's perfect technical execution. Some have said that his style is a blend of three finger and clawhammer but Tony would not describe it that way; it's just how he writes the tunes and how simply but poetically they are played. Tony writes achingly, beautiful melodies and in his hands, the banjo is an almost orchestral instrument.
