Yea Harry fine fellow. I knew Dr. Balch in his early 40s as a professor of economics at MTSU. Quiet by nature; he weaved and bobbed like a preacher in front of the class room. I recall my second semester at college - I was waiting outside of his Econ 101 class and a student from the previous semester asked "where are you headed?" I said "economics with a Dr. Balch." She said "don't go; you will fail." Keep in mind new students weren't all prepared for college and I suppose she didn't do so well in his class. I found him to be outstanding if you listened. It was that semester I started playing banjo and had to tell everybody. Leaving class one day I shared with Dr. Balch that I had purchased a banjo and he said "my son plays banjo professionally." He was proud of John's playing in a band and was glad to tell me in his understated way. I was introduced to John shortly afterward. Well it is 36 years later.... I have enjoyed knowing him and the family. David E.

The last time I was at Uncle Dave Macon Days John , his parents and I all watched David Holt's performance together. Mr. Balch really seemed to enjoy it. The whole family is special. Aloha!
