My Instruments: culled the herd way down - at one point I owned 35 banjos at once but currently all I have are a Ramsey Student, a Mogi "Knockabout" fretless and a few tenors. I've owned all sorts of wonderful 5 string banjos from Vega Whyte Laydies to Ome Silverspun Jubilees - and all sorts of tone rings in between. I did not enjoy playing any of them as much as I enjoy playing those two banjos I have left. They're all I need.

Favorite Bands/Musicians: J.S. Bach I can listen to all day long.
Ragtime is close behind but it has to be REAL Ragtime - unaccompanied piano is best
Other than that I like varying dosages of all sorts of music.

I sat down to record my new Flesher Mountain Boomer fretless just to see how it sounded and, lo and behold, I got off a reasonably complete version of a tune I've been putting together. I decided it was good enough to post, complete with the sounds of my wife washing the lunch dishes in the next room.

This is an original piece I made up for my infant grand daughter. It's played on an Ome Sweetgrass open back banjo tuned to F#DADE. I recorded it back in 2005

My first attempts at Minstrel style and I've already deviated from Flesher's instructions...I'm hopeless

Before I started learning clawhammer style in 2004, I saw an old Dobson for sale on Ebay and bought it - fixed it up and started playing it. I made this song up and recorded it on my pc just for giggles really. It's dirt simple but I like it, particularly I like the sound that old Dobson made with those nylon strings and that little flurry of notes that happens at 36 and 37 seconds into it. This circa 1890-1900 banjo had violin peg tuners and I can't begin to tell you what notes it's tuned to - I used to tune it to wherever it sounded best. You'll probably have to turn your speakers up to hear it - my apologies, it was recorded with the microphone from my wife's telephone headset.

A few years back I bought a concert scale ukulele. About a month later this tune fell out of it. I call it Sally's in the Kitchen and I actually have two whole verses of lyrics and a break for it. Once I learn how to sing and play at the same time - maybe I'll record a full take. Meanwhile...

This is an original piece I cobbled together from riffs I'd been playing and a portion of the fiddle tune "Spotted Pony" The Shmoo part comes in from those creatures in L'il Abner. The song is played on a Wildwood Troubadour tuned to F#DADE. I recorded this back in 05 I think...I just found it again on an old computer.
