Continuing the Mossy Roof (Seattle) String Band theme, and recordings with my new Microphone, this is one of those tunes that I find really catchy, and hadn't recorded before. It's in Old D

Another tune I first heard the Skillet Lickers version of, and kinda got hooked on it. This arrangement lends from them, and the Mossy Roof String Band who've done a version under the CC3.0 BY-NC-SA, both of whom have contributed to my little version! The Skillet Lickers version goes on for many verses, but I've just done the traditional 3 times around - otherwise I gets dizzy! Fun playing this one!

Latest effort with my Matthews Banjer, fitted with Nylguts. Posted the tab of this arrangement too. Enjoy!

A tune from the Ken Perlman Clawhammer Style Banjo book, that I learned whilst on my hols this year.
It's in Sawmill/G Modal and it's one of 2 tunes I can play in Sawmill, the other just depresses me, so I don't play it often!
Played on my GP Matthews Banjo, with Nylgut strings.

Another fresh recording of this tune I learned from the Mossy Roof (Seattle) String Band, this time just me and my Banjer

I've been wanting to play this since first picking up a Banjo, so I decided to have a crack at it this month (as rehab!) On my 'Vintage; fitted with Nylguts, al fresco in my back yard, soaking up the sun. Wierd software thing going on at about 1:24 - it jumped??

A short Medley of Grandfathers clock sandwiching Loch Lomond. Just for fun really, no other point than that I could. On my Matthews A-scale with Nickel strings

Learned it first in G-Tuning, then decided that as I was starting to play a lot using Double C, I'd better learn it in this tuning too!
Using a nasty microphone and my lovely Geo.P.Matthews English Banjo. One day I might even install some spikes so I can play in Old-D - but for now, C it is.

Another classic I've been listening too recently (and practicing!) Listening to Wade Wards version whilst getting insight and assistance from Ken Perlmans Clawhammer Style Banjo book.
In A (aEAC#E) tuning (G-tuning capo.2 - I'm lazy, what can I tell you?)

Same as the other version really, just a cleaner audio and my Matthews Banjo sans Resonator. The Backing Track is played by the Mossy Roof (Seattle) String Band and used under the Creative Commons by-NC-SA v3.0 Licence.

I Found this in my Perlman Book and liked the look of the D Tuning so I tuned up my Matthews to E and had a go. I reckon it's not bad for 3 days practice. I'm sure it'll get a bit smoother with time. Lovely melody and great piece written by Paul Brown. Normally in f#DF#AD, but played here in G#EG#BE (capo'd up 2)

After my experience with the Stringband recently this was one of my tunes to learn. So I got Ken's great book out and began learning the arrangement in there.
It's a little pedestrian, but I'm still learning it.
It's a great tune with lots of HO/PO's slides and drop-thumbs for all of us Clawhammer nuts like me! Much fun to learn!
Buy Ken's book - it's awesome!

From the Ken Perlman Clawhammer Style Banjo - my go at it. On my Matthews which I've just fitted with Nylguts for a change.

So after the enforced break, and all of the trauma associated with it, I'm nearly back to where I was before the break - but with a new improved Right Hand Technique (well I think so anyway!) My latest attempt recorded al fresco. It gets faster, I know. I haven't the same stamina in my right arm yet, and find myself speeding up before th onset of cramp!

Decided that I'd invest in Band in a Box (very basic version, I work in edumaction so get paid peanuts!) and try my hand playing along with a simple backing track.
It sounds okay to me - still struggling with my ear being connected to my hand - but I'll get there!

I've Been listening to some good 'Old-Timey' clawhammer players recently, and the version of this song by Gaither Carlton just grabbed me immediately.
A great tune, and the original has some great lyrics (I ain't singing, promise!) too.
In Old-D (aDADE) but I think he might play the original in C (maybe?)

I got a bit over-stimulated by this tune and decided to do a vocal track! Oh, the horror! Be nice, it's the first time I decided to try singing to something I played. Working on the singing whilst playing thing now!
I enjoyed myself, anyhow.

Okay, I fell in love with this tune about 12 months ago, and figured it was about time I had another go at it. New Microphone (so much better quality!) and some good advice from some of the folks here.

I just had to. Sorry to all of you who've heard me do this over and again, but I had to have a go with my new bionic elbow! My all -time favourite tune, on my 'Vintage' fitted with Nylguts, whilst drinking Zider in the garden. Hear those gulls screeching! (pesky flying rats!)

A tune I learned from the Mossy Roof (Seattle) String Band Class pages, because of all of the drop-thumbing.
Nice tune with some good rhythm and fun to play.

Loosely based on the Skillet Lickers 1920's recording. I was trawling YouTube and came across this tune and couldn't get it out of my head. I decided to learn it from my dusty memory of the tune and this is my version. It does vary distinctly from theirs, but I enjoy playing it so what the heck! On my Vintage with Nickel strings.

My newer, but not very polished version of my arrangement of this Skillet Lickers tune from the 1920's. What the heck; it's got a Banjo and a Dog in the title: what more does it need really? lol!
