Couldn't find out much about these folks, other than that they recorded this song in 1937. This is what you call "true" singing...... unaffected and from the heart. This is an experiment in using "noise removal" in Audacity software. The 78 is in nice shape, and the software did a pretty good job of taking out the hum from my record player.

The flip side of this 78 is "Everybody Works but Father", which Riley Puckett recorded on Columbia 15078-D 142057, and the two versions are extremely similar... vocals and guitar parts. I bet Riley Puckett used Will Taylor as a pseudonym.

Cowboy's dream played on a Stewart piccolo banjo. Banjo is tuned up 5 frets above standard D tuning. Fiddle is GDAE, and this D tune is played shifted down one string so that it's in tune with the banjo. Result is that the tune is in the key of G. Guitar in in standard tuning.

Tune played by Henry Reed, recorded by Jabbour as "Breakdown in A". Benford and Hoffman recorded a nice version as part of a medley, called it "Over the Mountain". Fiddle in AEAE, Orpheum banjo. My fiddle plays the West Virginia tunes better now that I put a rattlesnake rattle in it.

An experiment using tenor banjo strings on a short-scale banjo. 3rd & 4th strings are wound.............
0.030" wound 4th,
0.023" wound 3rd,
0.016" plain 2nd,
0.012" plain for 1st & 5th........ banjo is a 1922 Fairbanks-Vega Whyte Laydie tenor converted to short-scale 5-string. Action is still a little low, I played the A part low on the banjo a couple of times to hear the wound 3rd & 4th.

This Canadian polka has been stuck in my head for the past couple of months. I learned the tune from Jody Stecher's recording, and there are lots of other versions out there. Banjo 029, a probable Supertone w/ steel strings. Banjo is on the left stereo track.
