Prestige?

I was given a "Prestige" Banjo with the number 312 inside (made in Japan).  I want to pass it along to my son who is a musician but wanted some info on it first.  I'm having a hard time getting info by googling.  Is the Prestie the same as Gold Tone.  Any help would be appreciated. :)
