Just Published My New Clawhammer Banjo Book

Monday, March 29, 2010 @11:40:19 AM

Hi Everyone,

I just self-published a clawhammer banjo book, Clawhammer Banjo String Band Favorites.  It took almost a year to write the book and record all the tunes (200+) and exercises from the book.  Following is a blurb I sent out to my online resellers and music stores:

"This is a complete banjo book.  It contains over 200 banjo arrangements that were created to accompany many of the most popular old-time fiddle tunes.  All tunes are shown in a simple banjo tablature format that is explained in the book, and all tunes display the associated guitar chords.  Most tunes are referenced to a particular recording source listed in the discography.  The playing style is clawhammer banjo with a big influence from the legendary Round Peak banjo players, such as Tommy Jarrell, Fred Cockerham and Kyle Creed.  Some tunes lend themselves to a more melodic style.  Five tunings are used in the book and they are fully described.  The book is sectioned according to the tuning.  In addition to the tunes, the appendix contains a wealth of material for developing banjo players, including scales, exercises and a chord chart.  The accompanying CD contains all the tunes and exercises from the book.  The book is richly illustrated with snapshots of musicians, young and old, from all over the country."

At my website, http://www.ragtime-resource.com, you can download the table of contents, a tune list and the tab for two banjo tunes from the book.       Thanks, Steve
