Last Friday we set up for the open mic jam. This time, John brought a replacement for the lone instrument mic, an old Shure. He showed it to me and I set it up. Then we did the sound check. I grabbed my guitar and tried it. Then I tried it with the banjo to make sure.
What a difference! The regular mic made the instruments sound tinny. This mic gave the instruments full presence. They sounded like instruments!
John also got a hold of a second amp/mixer for the monitors, and two main speakers. Now we have four monitors and we can hear everything.
The sound system makes such a difference, not just to the audience, but to the performers. Good monitors and, especially, good microphones are essential.
