Value of an Ode Truss adjustment tool

From Disco Kid on 4/15/2013 5:02:33 PM

I see lots of people looking for Ode truss adj tools but haven't seen one for sale. What are they worth?

IDK, but maybe I should make a run of them?

Its simpler than you could imagine. Ive had a Baldwin Propeller, BaldwinOde D, and a Gretsch Ode D - all with the internal heel gear adjustment. I never had a tool. So I made one in about 30 minutes. Sears has a tool at retail that is a knurled rod bent at two 90 degree angles. On one end is a conventional blade tip and the other a phillips tip. Its shape is like one half of a Nazi swastika symbol. It costs $3.00. I bought it and with a small metal grinder made a grooved end (about .025 inch depth). It fits into the hole and serves as an easy tool for adjusting the neck truss rod. Remember that it doesnt take a lot of turning to affect the neck relief- And it doesnt happen immediately. In fact, you may not need to even make the adjustment! Best wishes.

It sure wouldn't hurt, crab, if you did make a few. I have never owned one, but I've made do with a blade screwdriver. That's risky, though, because all those parts in the gearbox are cast pot metal.

If someone can send me a picture I'll ask a machinist friend if he can reproduce it.

Linked by 35planar 7 years ago: Looking for an ODE 5-string neck, pre-Baldwin, dowel stick or no dowel stick, long or standard, tuners or none as long as the truss rod, frets, and wood are decent with no twist. I know, seems futile.
