When the original post came up, the screen had the words running together. Looked like "...due to the ASCAP Nazi's Elmer Sparks..."
Thought you were making it look like Elmer was one of the ASCAP Nazis.
Anyway, I'm planning to be there.

I hate it when a jam needs to come to an end because of ASCAP or BMI coming through. They DO have a point, though. If you play the music that they represent in a public forum, you need to pony up royalties.

Did anybody find out how which tunes they said the jam had no rights to play or how much money they wanted? I've seen this happen before, and some jams have elected to collect a few bucks and pay the nominal fee, or just NOT play those tunes anymore. Stay in the public domain and you're good to go. It's just a couple of thoughts.

Few Bucks??, they were talking $1200.00 for a small coffee shop.

Is that a yearly fee? I heard this same thing happening here in Stevens Point. If you're not charging people to listen, why are they demanding royalties? I'm sorry if I'm ignorant, just asking.

yes, a yearly fee, they, say they reimburse the musicians, but it's just a money grab.

Oh, I see. Shame on them, then. They have an open jam at the Elbow Room in Stevens Point, and someone did an article on it, and the people who play at the jam were upset becuase they were afraid it would bring the ASCAPpies around. I also heard they dispatch spies to come and listen to what is being played.

You are all invited to play any of my original songs at any jam session anywhere in the world, for free.
