Group Jam ???

From dewbanjo on 2/11/2011 5:13:27 AM

Maybe we should have a "Group Jam" this year..someplace "central" say Harris Hill, NY or someplace where we old folks from Penna could meet with you NY folks.  Must be plenty of parks we just could show up at...??

Fun idea. Another thought too. I don't know if any here are also into BG... BG festivals. There's a great one in the Southern Tier... Lodi NY, between Seneca and Cayuga Lakes. In August. A smaller festival, very family oriented. It's call "Pickin' in the Pasture". They have a website... just Google it. If any here happen to attend that we could coordinate and connect up for some campfire picking?

Also, don't forget Black Creek Fiddlers Reunion near Albany on Memorial Day weekend, Lake Genero (Fiddlin Bear) in Hamlin, Pa Labor day weekend. Also there is a bluegrass festival at Lazy Brook park in Tunkhannock, Pa sometime during the summer.

Hmmm, why re-invent a jam get-together...Lodi sounds like a neat place....maybe "sip" a bit of wine too. Do you think those of us that play "Clawhammer" would be welcomed?

Well... I went to Lodi last summer. My first time there, but I hung with friends who were BG'srs and long-time attendees of that festival. From what I saw back at the camp sites, there were little jams going on all over. At all times of day and night. And while the stage music was clearly of the BG genre, back at the campfires the flavor could be anything from BG, to OT, to more country western.... kind of by what group had assembled. So find the right little group and I think CH would certainly be welcome.

One other thing though... make no mistake, this is a BG festival. If you're going for the stage performances they are solidly BG. That's no biggie for me. I aspire to play OT, but have no problem listening to other in happiness! I much like to sing BG, and often my BG friends welcome my doing so so that they can focus on the playing and beer.

August 25-28th. I see they have the band line-up loaded to the site now too. pickininthepasture.com/index.cfm
