Anybody know a good banjo between $3-$500?

I've bought a couple old ones on eBay for less than $100, each of which were very nice instruments after cleaning, replacing missing parts, new head, bridge, better pegs, etc. I bought a Wurlitzer (Vega) tenor banjo in an antique mall for $120. Bought a neck. Made a dowel stick. New tuners, tailpiece, head, bridge. Probably spent close to $300. It's better than anything you can buy for that price.
	Grumpy1 says: 7/22/2011 11:01:23 PM What Vernob says is true. However, for straight off the shelf, ready to play you can't beat a Deering Goodtime as a starter banjo. Used are right in the 300 + price range and sometimes new for 400 +. Best of luck.
	xixiant says: 7/30/2011 10:31:06 PM Used anything. I'd recommend that Deering, and also throw in a pitch for the RK Madison and a Korean-made Saga SS10. If you're close to stores that sell 'em used--it really is good to go try out your banjo-to-be. They all have such different sounds.
