well it has been a 1 1/2 since I started  this banjo stuff, and I still like in fact I love it, still playing real slow, and I don't if my fingers are able to go faster like they do for pro's, i have learn a couple of different rolls with some tunes that sound good to me, it is a slow process, and at my age i guess it will takea very long time, cause I am not musiclly inclined, but I just love the way the banjo sounds and it make me very happy to pick it. when i am very stressed out and have a lot on my plate. i can just sit and pick and it is so calming. so unward slow player here to you my friends at Banjo Hangout, the kids going back to school and the holidays coming fast upon us,  makes you happy and smiling. i wish for all of you great tunes, write them down no matter what they are, slow slow slow  don thomas, PS talk soon!

Keep at it Don. As long as you are having fun, what else matters? And you never know where it might take you.

I agree, if it's fun keep picking. I know it gets frustrating at times but it's worth it.

I just bought a mandolin to try this week. My initial thought is......what did I do now!? I had the same thought when i bought the banjo too...:) Time will tell....but I can honestly say, I love to pick the banjo!

Now that is just spooky right there! I just started playing with the mando about 6 weeks ago. Putting in 2 hours a day now. It started as a diversion from the banjo, but now, I dunno. I seem to be picking up songs a bit faster. Must be a progression?

JAFO, that's funny! That was also a reason I bought a mando. I found myself wanting to play something else in the bluegrass family when I put down my banjo. I'm learning from Murphy Method. It's a bit slow right now just practicing the G scale.

What source are you using to learn? I bought the Kentucky 150 on the advice of a local seller/luthier.

SOURCE? I don't need no stinkin' SOURCE! Just kidding. Actually I have no real 'source'. I have some advice and guidance from my banjo teacher, took some banjo/fiddle stuff and transcribed it to the mando, working from tabs a lot to get me going, have a chord chart, and some free advice here and there. Just playing with it for fun, not really any goals. Working on Devil's Dream right now, but the speed is hard to attain, and the melody doesn't sound right just yet.
It's a process,
Tom

Your good then! I have trouble learning unless I can hear what it's suppose to sound like. I would like to jump to chords soon though. Kind of boring just practicing scales. Either way it's a great hobby that can go wherever I go.
