Planning a trip down to Portland to pick up a banjo from Brooks. We're hoping to browse a few good music stores that carry vintage banjos, guitars and mandolins. In particular, I'd love to try a few old Gibson guitars (L-50, LG-2, L-00 etc....). I'm also looking for a variety of banjo bridges to try. What's your favorite store? Any recommendations would be most appreciated. Many thanks. Kim

Pioneer Music used to be the good vintage instrument shop in Portland, but they closed this past year. I don't know of another particularly good vintage instrument shop. Portland Music's accoustic store on Broadway has a fair selection of new accoustic instruments. And Trade Up music carries a lot of used instruments, but they tend to be lower end. But you sometimes get lucky in there. Anyway, if you're going to be in Portland long enough for a jam and want to get together, give a shout. I might be able to host a picking party.
