jams in arkansas

From ananok on 2/14/2011 2:47:43 PM

I think one of the hardest things about starting out in banjo, or any instrument, is finding other people to play with. That being said, It would be nice if we could post some jams in the general area. I know that would help some people out.

Thanks for joining!

In the Fort Smith area, there is a bluegrass jam at Vida Brooks' place in Roland, OK. Lots of pickers and we have a great time every Friday night during the cooler months.

Roger, I was a close friend of Leo's while I attended the U of A in Fayetteville, 1968-73. I hung out at his string shop in Eureka almost every Saturday. Those were great days, bluegrass was gaining popularity.

Brentwood Shows - First and 3rd Saturdays from Oct thru May 7-10pm. They have a stage show open to any group, whether its an existing band or thrown together there on the spot. Sometimes there is jamming after the show until about midnight.

I'm with Bobby (rferg)...Brentwood....over 40 years of bluegrass jams. A great place for everyone from the professional to amateurs. There is no telling who you might run into at Brentwood. Fun, family atmosphere. Lots of great pickers!

Mt. Ida AR has a show every Saturday night during the summer that starts at 7pm on the courthouse square. Sometimes they jam before the show, but there is a local jam from 5 to 8 (bluegrass, gospel, country and some bar songs) int the corner grocery store in Shirley Arkansas about 13 miles away. Buy some of Miss Lauri's pie or chicken fries if you want to show some appreciation for her hosting. There is a little grill there.
