This past summer, my then 11 year old son wanted a banjo for his 12th birthday. GREAT I thought, another interest of his that fizzles out in 2 weeks. Long story short, my husband and I relented and bought him a little Washburn B8K ( not a big investment) and found someone that gave banjo lessons at a local music store. After a couple of weeks, the banjo teacher told me that my son has a natural ability on the instrument and darn if the teacher wasn't right. One year later, my son can play about 10 songs cleanly and up to tempo. Little bugger hardly practices.

Anyhow, during a hurricane this past fall, power was out, no TV, no radio, no electricity, not much else to do, so I picked up my sons' banjo and started plucking a few strings, playing some rolls that I had watched him play and got infected. I got the "banjo bug". Even purchased a Recording King RK 82 I found on ebay. Nice little "jo". So now, I have started taking lessons (month #4) and having a GREAT time with it. I try to put in about 2 hours of practice every day. Practice my rolls with a metronome, practice songs slowly but cleanly, etc. My playing may not be up to speed, but I keep plugging along. These old fingers don't move like they used to.

I may be crazy, but I dream about playing banjo. I don't know, maybe a symptom of the "banjo bug"?
