Where to start..........
Unplated brass archtop tone ring. I received this thing sitting on a multi-ply Gibson rim, out of "coal mining country" in Kentucky. It's obviously homemade, got lathe machining marks all over it.
There are 24 holes, grouped into 6's, with a space between every group of 6. These 24 holes are tapped (threaded). In the 4 spaces between the groups of 6, 4 angled holes, resembling Gibson 4 hole archtop ring holes, have been drilled.
The thing has been turned to fit a rim cut for a flathead ring. This tone ring is short!
I believe this thing was made from a large bearing race out of a train wheel, or some large piece of equipment.
On the positive side, this ring rings like a bell for 20 seconds after tapping it!
If interested, email me, we'll exchange phone numbers, and talk about this thing. Too much info to type into this ad.
