Alvarez Silver Princess for sale. It is an open back and has a special tone ring. Inlaid name "Silver Princess" on the headstock. Copy of a Vega Tub-a-phone open back. 28 hooks-pot, shoe brackets on bracket band, with steel fillister head screws instead of flat head brass as used by Vega. Nuts are closed end Vega-style. Heavy notched stretcher band. The head is 10 15/16" diameter, like Vega. Chrome plated brass hardware. Multi-ply pot with pearloid and ivoroid bindings inside and out. Coordinator rods.
Laminated mahogany neck with black stripe. 27" scale (Vega). Small frets. Rosewood FB, diamond inlays, black behind ivoroid binding, side dots. Follows Vega profile, except has thumb stop, and truss rod. Geared 5th. Bone nut.
I believe this model was only made for a couple of years.
A solid, loud banjo with the distinct Tubaphone sound.
It has 3 of the original planetary tuners (with finger adjustment of screws) and 1 replacement tuner. Missing 3 (I originally posted 2 but on looking again, it is 3) of the original hooks/nuts. The case hinges have been replaced, with some of edge binding is gone.
I am the original owner. I bought it new in 1977. I've been playing resonator, bluegrass banjos for quite awhile now and this has just been sitting around in the case for years.
