Hey guys, I’m getting ready to purchase my first serious banjo. The one I currently play was made from a kit by an amateur woodworker. It’s been fine to learn on but I’ve progressed enough to take this next step. I’m wanting to try out some banjos so I can get a feel for exactly what I want. I play old time banjo in the clawhammer style. I’m wondering if there are any old time banjo players in North GA who would be willing to let me sample their banjos. If you are someone you know live in Dalton, Chattanooga, Lafayette, Ringgold, Chickamauga, and would be willing to let me sample some banjos I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

Are there any music stores in your area or near that carry banjos? If so, you might try there and see if they have anything that might tempt you to buy.

Otherwise, old time festivals would be the next place I'd look.

You should go to the Kennedy Creek old time festival this weekend and ask people to try their banjos

It may be a bit farther than you wish to travel (if so, you can, obviously, ignore this), but last time I was there, Bob Tedrow, at Homewood Music, in Birmingham, had a nice selection of banjos, both new and used. You might check his website, to determine if there’s something of interest.
