Hi everyone,
It’s Emily, Ronnie’s daughter. He was active here for many years. The loss of Dolly today has me pretty homesick, remembering listening to records in Bobby Thompson’s bedroom, and sitting covered in mosquito bites, criss-cross applesauce as a little girl at bluegrass festivals, wild as the wind.
I was on my dad’s profile tonight and found a recording of Walls by Tom Petty that we did more than 20 years ago. I had probably been playing guitar for less than a year. I had heard Tom Petty and thought, “hey, I could probably do that.” The audacity of children…
My dad was always sad he couldn’t share this more widely, but I thought, better late than never. I recorded another version tonight. The lack of banjo accompaniment is louder than whatever noise I can make. I hope you all are doing well, I think of you often.
-Emily
