I have 3 banjos--- an OME Columbine, a Nechville Heratige and an IIDA 236---all collecting dust for the past 8 years. I'm going to try to get back into playing again. Please wish me luck.

It can be done. I put down the banjo in the late '70s to continue with my career and raise my kids. Didn't pick it up again until the early 90s. Was surprised how much I remembered and how much I forgot. After taking a few lessons and doing a lot of practicing, I started going to jams, eventually started a band and haven't stopped since (but I have slowed down).

I took pretty much thirty years off from playing guitar, I was just too busy raising kids and chasing my career. I took it up again in 2014. Sometimes I'm glad I took the break. I picked up the banjo along the way pretty soon after I started playing the guitar, and who knows if that would have happened otherwise.
I put the banjo down for 15 years once. When I picked it up again I was a totally different player. How you play is kinda a reflection of who you are.

I took my banjo with me on a 10 day scalloping trip out on the Georges Bank a few years ago.
Not much time for it but I did get in a few tunes at suppertime.

We were dragging for scallops (98' Eastern Rig named the Sea Trek)150 miles east of Virginia.It blew 45 knots for a couple of days.20' seas.
